Good Times/A Snowboarding Movie

I was contacted a while back by a Finnish movie production company who said they wanted to use Dark Indigo (which they found on Opsound) for the soundtrack of their upcoming snowboarding movie, Good Times.

I said sure.

Well today, as part of the deal, I received a few DVDs of the finished movie, and sure enough, there was my name in the credits. I then fast-forwarded through the movie until I hit upon the scene with my music in it. It turns out they used a few seconds of the orchestral, military marching-brass-band encore of Dark Indigo for a… »bloopers » sequence in which our dashing young Finns eat snow in various ways. I guess they thought that the marching-band oom-pah was the epitome of musical ridiculousness and bad taste, and therefore a perfect fit for these hilariously embarrassing moments ruthlessly caught on film.

I can’t say I was surprised. As I expected, the rest of the soundtrack is your usual alternative rock, and from the outset, I didn’t really expect them to use my song as an audio backdrop for cool, slippery, snowy acrobatics. After all, I’m about as different from a teenage scandinavian snowboarder as you can get, and I suppose my music reflects that incontrovertible fact.

I’m not complaining. Quite the contrary. If it works for them, it works for me.
